Earlier, Satyapal Malik was the member of the parliament 9th Lok Sabha (1989-1991), Rajya Sabha (1980-1989) from Uttar Pradesh and also the member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly (1974-1977).
Satyapal Malik has completed his L.L B before joining politics. He had been a member of Parliament from Aligarh.
