The National Security Guard (NSG) was set up in 1984 as a Federal Contingency Deployment Force to tackle all facets of terrorism in the country. NSG is trained to conduct counterterrorist task including counter hijacking tasks on land, sea, and air; Bomb disposal, Post Blast Investigation and Hostage Rescue missions.
Applications for the NSG is made by male volunteers of the Indian Army for the Special Action Group (SAG), male volunteers of the paramilitary and police forces for the SRG, and male and female volunteers for the various support roles (e.g. administration and logistics).
Candidates go through three phases to become a fully-qualified NSG operator, which include Pre-selections, Basic NSG training, and Advanced NSG training. Phase 1 primarily consists of administration and eligibility criteria. Phase 2 and 3 is approximately 14 months in duration.
The Basic training includes Martial arts, target shooting, jumping from heights and across divides, and handling weapons using a variety of small arms/ specialized weapons specific to anti-terror/anti-hijack operations, as well as communication equipment.
Advanced NSG training includes the following:
1- Unarmed combat and knife combat
2- Surveillance and intelligence gathering
3- Demolition and bomb disposal techniques
4- Specialised insertion techniques
5- Rapid and reflex shooting, and mirror shooting etc.
NSG is modeled like the German GSG 9. Being such an elite unit, NSG uses most advanced weapon systems and equipment. Here are weapons used by Black Cat Commandos:
