FASTag is required by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for the purposes of the return journey discount, or any other Toll Fee Plazas exemption. Customers seeking a return travel discount within 24 hours or other local restrictions must have a valid working FASTag on the car. In this regard, notice was issued to the 2008 Gazette notification no. 534E dated 24 August 2020 to amend the Rules of Practice of the National Highways Tax.
It is yet another step in encouraging digital payments on NH fees. The fee for such concessions is charged by way of pre-paid accounts, smart cards, or FASTag or onboard (transponder) package or some other such package.
