FasTag: Became necessary to avail Discounts on national highways
All concessions on national highways Toll plazas is made mandatory by FASTag
FASTag is required by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for the purposes of the return journey discount, or any other Toll Fee Plazas exemption. Customers seeking a return travel discount within 24 hours or other local restrictions must have a valid working FASTag on the car. In this regard, notice was issued to the 2008 Gazette notification no. 534E dated 24 August 2020 to amend the Rules of Practice of the National Highways Tax.
It is yet another step in encouraging digital payments on NH fees. The fee for such concessions is charged by way of pre-paid accounts, smart cards, or FASTag or onboard (transponder) package or some other such package.
The amendments to the Rules would enable-
- For discounts on a return journey within 24 hours, it would be through FASTag or such other device and automatic and no requirement for a pass.
- For discounts on all other cases, having a valid FASTag is made necessary.
- The amendment would also enable that in cases where there is a discount available for a return journey within 24 hours, there is no need for a prior receipt of intimation and the citizen would get the discount automatically if a return journey is made within 24 hours with a valid and a functional FASTag on the vehicle
