11 October: International Girl Child Day 2019 Theme, Details, Aim, Significance
International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated every year on 11 October across the world to recognize girls’ rights and unique challenges faced by girls around the globe.
International Day of the Girl Child observance aims to increase awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender and supports more opportunities for girls.
International Day of the Girl Child 2019 theme is "Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow".
International Day of the Girl Child also increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as the right to education, nutrition, medical care, legal rights and protection from discrimination, violence and unfree child marriage.
International Day of the Girl Child also calls for empowerment and improved rights of the world’s 1.1 billion girls.
International Day of the Girl Child was observed for the first time in 2012.
International Day of Girl Child was instituted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) by adopting Resolution moved by Canada in December 2011.
