Nasa's Orion Spacecraft Features, Specification, Purpose, Aim

Orion Spacecraft history, description, functions, details

Orion was first made for the Constellation program in 2004, as the Orion CEV (Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle). It was meant to be launched on the Ares I rocket. Then it would be able to go to the International Space Station. It was also planned to go to a spacecraft launched in pieces on different Ares V rockets, and the spacecraft with the Orion would go to the Moon, Mars or another place.

On October 11, 2010, Constellation was canceled. They created a new program and a new rocket called the Space launch system and changed the name of Orion to the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle. This rocket will launch Orion for going to asteroids and Mars

Orion will be launched atop a Delta IV Heavy rocket, which produces a fiery trail that could be visible across the state. Look to the east and slightly north. The launch time is set for 7:05 a.m. — just about sunrise, incidentally — but could be as late as 9:44 a.m.

On this test flight, NASA says the unmanned capsule will travel 3,600 miles away from Earth, orbiting the planet twice. It will re-enter Earth's atmosphere at 20,000 mph, withstanding heat as high as 4,000 degrees, before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.
