Pakal Dul Power Project initiated is a concrete-face rock-fill dam of 167 m high, on the Marusadar River, a tributary of the Chenab River, in Kishtwar district of the Jammu and Kashmir, India.
Pakal Dul Power Project will be the largest Hydro Power Project in Jammu & Kashmir on completion. It is also the first ever water storage project in Jammu & Kashmir, India.
Pakal Dul Power Project focuses to improve power supply, envisaging employment generation and developing the infrastructure of the J&K state.
Pakal Dul Power Project is a power plant aimed to generate hydroelectric power. The project cost of Pakal Dul Project is proposed at Rs. 8112.12 crores.
Pakal Dul Power Project construction work is supported by the Government of India as well as the Government of J&K.
Pakal Dul Power Project is expected to be implemented within 5.5 years from the start date of the Project.
Pakal Dul Power Project will be installed with a capacity of 1000 MW leading to an annual additional generation of 650 MU in downstream projects as it is a storage type project and shall improve the water availability during the lean season.
Pakal Dul Power Project will provide a free power of 12% to the J&K state, after 10 years of commissioning of the Project and water usage charges as applicable.
Pakal Dul Power Project additional 1 % free of power will go towards Local Area Development Fund (LADF). Govt. of J&K has first right to purchase balance power of NHPC (49%) & PTC (2%).
After the completion of Pakal Dul Power Project, it is believed that local population will be benefitted by the improvement and widening of roads and improvement of bridges etc.
