J&K Kishanganga Hydroelectric Project Details, Features, Benefits About

Kishanganga Hydro Electric Project is a power plant situated in Bandipora District of Jammu & Kashmir, India. It is a run of river scheme and has been proposed to be completed at a cost of Rs. 5882 crores.

Kishanganga Hydro Electric Project is aimed to improve power supply, envisaging employment generation and developing the infrastructure of the J&K state. 

Kishanganga Hydro Electric Project is installed with a capacity of 330 MW. All units of the project have been synchronized to provide an annual generation of 1712.96 MU.

Kishanganga H.E. Project will provide a free power of 13% to the state, which will be around Rs. 133 crores per year.

Kishanganga H.E Project, a 37 m (121 ft) tall concrete-face rock-fill dam is constructed with an objective to divert water from the Kishanganga River to a power plant in the Jhelum River basin.

Kishanganga H.E Project work was carried out by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC), an Indian Hydropower generation company.

Kishanganga H.E Project construction on the dam was started at full-flagged speed in the year 2007. Although, its work was first initiated in the year 2000, but was halted due to protest of locals and Pakistan.

Dam: Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam (CFRD) of 37 m high

Head Race Tunnel (HRT):1 No, Horseshoe/Circular shaped, 5.2 m dia, 23.2 km total length

Power House: Underground, 3 Units of 110 MW each (330 MW)
