Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a state-funded ‘Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme’, for working women of Tamil Nadu state on 24th February 2018 at a function in Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai.
PM Modi launched the scheme, on the occasion of the 70th birth anniversary of Tamil Nadu’s former Chief Minister Late J. Jayalalithaa.
Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme was initiated in a wake of Jayalalithaa proposal in her party’s manifesto during the elections of 2016.
Amma scheme will provide 50% of the cost subsidy or will grant Rs 25,000 to purchase a two-wheeler to working women of Tamil Nadu state. It will encourage women empowerment.
Amma scheme will benefit 1 lakh working women each year (annually).
PM Modi on the occasion distributed over the keys and registration books of scooters to five beneficiary women from Chennai.
PM Modi while addressing the gathering said that wherever Jayalalithaa is, she would be very happy to see the happiness on the faces of women here
