Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development schemes worth Rs 1,000 crore for Daman and Diu, on 24th February 2018 at an event in Daman.
PM Narendra Modi also inaugurated Air Odisha's flight connecting Ahmedabad to the coastal town of Diu, under the Centre's regional connectivity scheme UDAN.
PM Modi informed that this air connectivity will boost tourism in the region. It will be fast & convenient for tourists to travel from Diu to visit tourist places like the Somnath temple and Gir forest situated in Gujarat.
PM Narendra Modi also laid the foundation stones for a slew of projects, including a water treatment plant, a gas pipeline, an electric sub-station, a municipal market and a foot-bridge for the union territory.
PM Narendra Modi distributed keys for scooters to differently-abled beneficiaries, 'SWABHIMAN' cards to pregnant and Lactating Women, 'Badhai Kit' to the newly born girl children under 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'.
PM Modi also distributed cycles to school going girls under Saraswati Cycle Yojna, extended loans under 'Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojna' and 'Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana' to beneficiaries.
PM Modi also distributed permits for CNG drove public transport vehicles for a cleaner environment in Daman.
PM Modi proclaimed that the government is also taking various steps for the welfare of fishermen. The government would provide long boats to the community, which would help the fishermen venture into deep seas and get a bigger catch. He further added inspired by Blue Revolution in India, this will initiate a huge positive difference among the lives of fishermen
