Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has presented the General Budget- 2018-19 on 1st Feb 2018 in Parliament, New Delhi.
Arun Jaitley proclaimed the introduction of National Health Protection Scheme, this ambitious scheme will cover over 10 crore poor and unguarded families (approximately 50 crore beneficiaries) providing (Health Insurance) coverage up to 5 lakh rupees per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
Arun Jaitley informed that the National Health Protection Scheme is initiated under the Ayushman Bharat Programme and will prove to be the world’s largest government-funded health care programme.
National Health Protection Scheme, a revolutionary step towards healthcare policy is regarded to be named after PM Narendra Modi as ‘Modicare’ in progression to ‘Obamacare’ a health care policy introduced by Former US President Barack Obama on 23rd March 2010.
Union Government will also institute 1.5 lakh Health and Wellness Centres under the Ayushman Bharat programme with a budget of 1200 crore rupees.
Health and Wellness Centres will cater comprehensive health care, including for non-communicable diseases and maternal and child health services. These centres will also provide free essential drugs and diagnostic services.
Arun Jaitley later concluded, these two health sector initiatives will build a New India 2022 and will also generate millions of jobs, especially for women.
