India’s first Aviation Multi Skill Development Centre (MSDC) was launched at Chandigarh Airport’s old terminal on 27th February 2018.
The Union Minister of Civil Aviation, P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, inaugurated the MSDC centre, in the presence of Member of Parliament Chandigarh, Kirron Kher, and Member of Parliament Anandpur Sahib, Prem Singh Chandumajra.
The Multi Skill Development Centre is a CSR initiative of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and will initially train 2,360 students free of cost in three years.
The Multi Skill Development Centre is established in collaboration with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). It is also supported by Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council (AASSC) of India.
The MSDC will train about 2,400 youth and women in 8 aviation job roles over next 3 years. Its training course curriculum and assessments are designed by AASSC in accordance with National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).
Gajapathi Raju on the inaugural occasion informed that demand for aviation skilled personnel has been rising commensurately with the boom in the civil aviation sector witnessed in the last three to four years. More than 900 new aircraft are expected to be inducted by Indian scheduled airlines in the coming few years.
Gajapathi Raju also added in order to meet this requirement of aviation personnel and to strengthen the Skill India Mission, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) have collaborated to launch this Aviation MSDC with an estimated budget of Rs.5.25 crore.
