Secretary Ministry of Tourism, Shri Vinod Zutshi in collaboration with ESOI (Ecotourism Society of India) launched 3 major segments of tourism industry Tour Operators, Accomodation and Beaches, Lakes and waters.
He brought to mind the MOU signed in March 2016 ‘tween ESOI & Government of India to commence STCI programme crosswise India.
The SCTI abides by the guidance set by GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria), i.e., evolved under UN agencies viz. UNEP & UNWTO.
After much debate, STCI were outlined belatedly launched on 26th August, 2014 by then Minister of Hyderabad in association with leading Travel Trade Associations.
Speaking on the scene, Mr. Steve Borgia, President of ESOI acknowledged the obligation set out by Ministry of Tourism and quoted that India is one of few countries having criteria of its own.
