Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari has launched scheme for ‘District Driving Training Centres’ and scheme to provide ‘Grant of Financial Assistance’ for Road Safety Advocacy and awards for outstanding work in Road Safety on 7th March 2018 in New Delhi.
Under the District Driving Training Centres’ scheme, at least one model driving training centre will be set up in each district of States and Union Territories.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) will institute financial assistance of up to Rs. 1 crore for the District Driving Training Centres.
The District Driving Training Centres main aim is to create employment and meeting requirement of Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) drivers in India.
The District Driving Training Centres also focused on the infusing habit of road safety, like attitudinal and behavioral changes among drivers.
The District Driving Training Centres will conduct a training course for drivers carrying dangerous and hazardous goods. The agencies that will open center will provide infrastructure facilities like land, classrooms, and simulator etc.
The Grant of Financial Assistance scheme is initiated for administering Road Safety Advocacy and awards for the outstanding done in the field of Road Safety.
The financial assistance up to Rs. 5 lakh will be provided to NGO / Trust / Cooperative Societies and other agencies for administering road safety programme.
Three awards of Rs. 5 lakhs, Rs. 2 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh will be given in each State & Union Territories to the individuals or agencies engaged in road safety advocacy and allied activities.
