Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Sri R.K. Singh reviewed power sector development in the state of Jammu & Kashmir (Srinagar) on 10 October 2017.
The Senior Functionaries from the ministry of power, Government of India, Central Power Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) and the key official of the government of Jammu and Kashmir were also present during the review meeting.
Sri Singh reiterated the commitment of India to provide uninterrupted reliable power supply to all citizen of the country including Jammu and Kashmir and advised all concerned to ensure electrification of remaining 100 census villages by December 2017.
These villages exist in the remote area with difficult hilly terrain in the districts of Kishtwar, Kupwara, Reasi, Bandipore, Leh, Kargil & Rajauri.
Electrification of these villages would ensure electricity access to 100% census village of the state and catalyze the desired improvement in the quality of life of people of the state.
It also creates new opportunities for economic activities and jobs for the youth. The CPSUs of the government of India is providing requisite support to the government of J&K for implementation of these projects.
