The Union Petroleum Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan will originate the Sustainable Option towards Affordable Shipping (SATAT) ambition in New Delhi on October 1, 2018, on the penultimate day of the ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva operations.
The Minister will start the action with the PSU Oil Marketing Companies, suggesting Interpretation of Interest (IoI) from potential contractors to set up Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) product plants and make possible the biogas in the market for use in automotive fuels.
The SATAT initiative is aimed at providing a sustainable alternative to affordable transportation as a developmental effort that would benefit vehicle-users as well as farmers and entrepreneurs.
The Bio-gas is produced naturally through a method of anaerobic decay from waste and biomass origins like agriculture residue, cattle dung, sugarcane press mud, municipal solid waste, and sewage treatment plant waste.
After refinement, it is compressed and called CBG, which has pure methane content of over 95 percent.
The other waste streams including rotten potatoes from cold storages, rotten vegetables, dairy plants, chicken and poultry litter, food waste, horticulture waste, forestry residues and treated organic waste from industrial effluent treatment plants (ETPs) can also be used to generate biogas.
