The Smart cities mission was launched on 25 June 2015.The aim of the mission was to provide core infrastructure to cities,clean and
Sustainable environment and give a decent quality of life to their citizens through the application of 'smart solutions'.
A virtual event was held by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on 25 June 2021 ,to mark the sixth anniversary of the Smart Cities
Mission(SCM) and other urban transformation missions.The date also marked the 45 Years of establishment of the National Institute of Urban Affairs.
It is an autonomous body of MoHUA.Its task is to bridge the gap between research and practice on issues related to urbanization.
On 25 June 2021,Indore and Surat were announced as the winners of Smart Cities India Awards 2020.
*To improve the physical,social and economic infrastructure.
*Smart cities will bring growth and development in the country.
*To improve the qauality of life of people in cities.
*Government of India launched the 100 smart cities mission in 2015.
*To improve the efficiency of municipal services.
*Use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT),to enhance the city's liveability,workability,and sustainability.
*24 Key areas have been identified by the Ministry of Urban Development ,3 are directly related to water and 7 are indirectly related to water,like
Water quality modelling,leakage identification ,preventive maintenance and smart-metre management.
*The mission will also impact on poverty alleviation ,employment and other basic services.
