Union Home Ministry has instituted 5 Police Medals to promote professionalism and excellence in service and give recognition to the security personnel doing good work in the stressful environment and in difficult areas.
It was announced by Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh on 11th July 2018.
The five non-cash awards will supplement and strengthen the existing award schemes in the State Police Forces, Central Police Organisations, and the Armed Forces.
All the five medals will be minted and supplied by the Union Home Ministry and will be awarded each year by the Central or State police force/organisations on a fixed day.
A selection committee in every State/Central police force/organization would be identifying the awardees every year.
In case of the Special Operation Medal, Asadharan Aasuchana Medal, and Investigation Medal, the names will be finalised by the Ministry of Home Affairs based on recommendations made by States/UTs and Central police organisations.
Through these awards scheme, the Government of India aims to recognise good work, boost morale and inspire the Security personnel.
