Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 15th March 2018, has launched ‘LaQshya’ program with an aim to provide improved and quality maternity care to pregnant women and newborn babies in Government Health Institutions.
The LaQshya program will focus to strengthen quality maternity service in women’s Labor Rooms, Maternity Operation Theatres (OT), Obstetrics Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and High Dependency Units (HDUs).
The LaQshya program is being implemented to ‘fast-track’ interventions for achieving desired results. It will be implemented at all Medical College Hospitals, District Hospitals and First Referral Unit (FRU), and Community Health Center (CHCs).
The LaQshya program will benefit every pregnant woman and new-born delivering in public health institutions. It will reduce maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality.
The LaQshya program will also improve quality of care during delivery and immediate post-partum period and enhance the satisfaction of beneficiaries.It will provide Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) to all pregnant women attending public health facilities.
Under LaQshya program, the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) will monitor quality improvement in the labor room and maternity OTs.
Under LaQshya program, every medical facility achieving 70% score on NQAS will be certified as LaQshya certified facility.
The medical facilities scoring more than 90% will be given Platinum badge followed by Golden badge for 80% and Silver badge for 70%.
