Botanical Survey of India (BSI) and Natural History Museum (NHM), United Kingdom, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 16th February 2018 in New Delhi.
The MoU was signed between Director of BSI, Dr. Paramjit Singh and Head of the Algae, Fungi and Plants Division of NHM, Dr Sandra Knapp, in the presence of Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
The MoU was signed for cooperation in the field of genetic/taxonomic studies, research and training, conservation in India, including species and habitat conservation assessments.
The MoU signed will help in establishing the provision for staff members of both the organisations (BSI & NHM) to work together in their places. Further, they can also exchange information and associated data/images, which could impartially and equitably benefit their compliances.
Under the MoU, staff members may engage themselves in exchanging the collection, study and conservation of the plant materials such as seeds, herbarium specimens and tissue samples, in order to enhance knowledge and research activities.
Under the MoU, NHM will assist and help BSI in capacity building in areas of systematic botany and long-term conservation of plant genetic resources in India.
