The Ordnance Factories Board (OFB) was established under the British India Company in the year of 1775.
The Ordnance Factories Board (OFB) headquarters in Ayudh Bhawan, Kolkata.
At Present, IOFS S.K Chaurasia is serving as the Director General Ordnance Factories & Chairman, OFB.
The Ordnance Factories Board (OFB) is the oldest industrial organisation managed by the Government of India and the world’s largest production organization. It is also one of the top 50 manufacturers of defense equipment in the world.
The OFB is indulged in Testing, Production, Research, Development, Logistics and Marketing of a wide inclusive range of products in the field of defense system which includes Army-Navy-Airforce.
The OFB currently includes 41 Ordnance Factories, 4 Regional Safety Controllerates, 3 Regional Marketing Centers and 9 Training Institutes, that are spread all across India.
The OFB is regarded as the “Force behind the Armed Forces” and the “Fourth Arm of Defense” of India.
The OFB is functioning under the Department of Defense Production of Union Ministry of Defense.
The OFB governs all the Ordnance Factories of India which delivers products to all three Armed Forces of India- Indian Air Force, Indian Army and Indian Navy.
The Ordnance Factories of India produces defense products such as weapon spares, parachutes, chemicals and explosives, arms and ammunition, clothing and leather items etc which are also exported to around 30 countries across the world.
