India on 18th January 2018, successfully test fired its Agni-5, a nuclear-capable Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) from Dr. Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.
As per DRDO officials, Agni-5 traveled for about 19 minutes and covered 4,900 km of distance.
The Agni-5 is the most advanced missile of Agni series, indigenously developing as a part of its Integrated Guided Missile Development Program by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The Agni-5 is a three-stage solid fuelled missile with 50 tones of launch weight, 17.5-metre of length and 2 metres in width.
The Agni-5 is a fire and forget missile, capable of carrying a nuclear warhead of about 1.5 tones.
The Agni-5 is the long-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile, upholding with a strike range of (5,000 -5,500 km)
With Agni-5, India can now strike almost all of China and most parts of Asia, Africa and Europe.
The Agni-5 will make India join the exclusive list of countries with ICBMs, namely Russia, France, Germany, China and the US and UK.
