Mines Ministry MSS Satellite to watch illegal mining practices

 

 

Mines Ministry launched Mining Surveillance System, a latest satellite, for checking of illegal practises of mineral resources

Mines Ministry has launched a Mining Surveillance System (MSS) for the optimum utilisation of Mineral resources of the country.

MSS is a technology based latest satellite to keep a check on the illegal mining practises happening in the country.

MSS, a technology based satellite, works with remote sensing

It is a satellite based monitoring system which will activate an alarm at the place where illegal mining practises taking place.

There are 3,843 mining leases of Major Minerals in India and out of which working mines have been digitalised with this system and the non-working mines will be digitalised till next 3 months.

The maps of mining leases have been placed and remote sensing will be obtained from CARTOSAT and USGS.

The information so collected will be further transmitted to the higher officials for verification.

The company Wipro has been given the tender of Mining Tenement System (MTS) and this system will keep the record of functioning of the directorates of mining in the state.
