Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day observed every year on 28th May highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management for women & girls.
Menstrual Hygiene Day also aims to create awareness and change negative perceptions around menstrual hygiene. It encourages us to breaks the silence, raising awareness and changing the negative social norms around the Menstrual Cycle.
Menstrual Hygiene Day was first initiated by a German-based NGO WASH United in 2014, with an aim to benefit women worldwide while date 28 was selected to acknowledge that 28 days is the average length of the menstrual cycle
Menstrual Hygiene Day 2019 theme or campaign is #ItsTimeFor Action
Menstrual Hygiene Day brings together the voices and actions of non-profits, government agencies, individuals, the private sector and the media to promote good menstrual hygiene management (MHM) for all women and girls.
Menstrual Hygiene Day encourages all girls & women with the following tips:-
1. Changing napkin after every 4-5 hours
2. Washing genitals every time you use the toilet
3. Disposing sanitary napkins properly
4. Using one method of sanitation at a time
