New species of otter found in Mangrove Forests at Andhra Pradesh

 

 

Smooth-coated ottar found in Mangrove Forests of Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh 

Smooth-coated ottar was sighted for the first time in the mangrove forest next to Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary in district Krishna, Andhra Pradesh.

Seven otter including a family of tour were photographed while preying on a fish in the brackish waters.

It has sighted for the first time as no otter were present in the forests till now.

The smoother-coated otter are the species of otter which have a smooth fur and shorter than that of others.

They have a rounded head and a hairless nose in the shape of a distorted diamond

Their weight lies between 7 kg to 11 kg and measures of about 59 cm to 64 cm with a tail of 37 cm to 43 cm long.

They eat shrimp, crabs and fish and are found mostly in the Indian subcontinent and also in the marshes of Iraq.
