Mahatma Gandhi's 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations began In Us Capital
Top US lawmakers and reputed Indian-Americans started the year-long 150th-anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. He paid tribute to him during this time and said that his nonviolence is more relevant than ever before in the world. Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1969, Porbandar, Gujrat.
The Indian Embassy organized this program with more than half a dozen Indian-American organizations. In this, members of the American Congress spoke about Gandhi's influence throughout the world, including his influence on the famous leader of civil rights struggle Martin Luther King.
Prior to his visit to India, King had said, 'In other countries, I can go as a tourist, but in India, I will go as a pilgrim.' On this occasion, the speakers said that Gandhi's message of peace and non-violence is more relevant today than ever.
Mahatma Gandhi had a deep influence on the civil rights movement in America.
