Kirshna Kumari Kohli 1st Hindu Minority Woman Senator of Pakistan Profile, Early Education, Political Career, Awards and Achievements

Kirshna Kumari Kohli is a politician of the Pakistan People’s Party in Pakistan. She became the first Hindu minority woman Senator elected to the Upper House (Senate) of Pakistan on 3rd March 2018.

Kirshna Kumari Kohli or Krishna Lal Kohli was also known as Kishoo Bai is a human rights activist and politician belongs to Nagarparkar (Dhana Gam), situated near Sindh province of Pakistan.

Kirshna Kumari Kohli was born to a poor agricultural laborer family in February 1979. Her father name is Jugnoo Kohli who belongs to a Hindu-minority community in Pakistan, the Kohli community.

Kirshna Kohli family was tied to bonded labor hence she had to work as a laborer when she was in Class 3rd.

Kirshna Kohli got married at the early age of 16 to Lal Chand, who was a student of Sindh Agricultural University.

Kirshna Kohli acquired her degree in Sociology from the University of Sindh in 2013. Her family and husband support helped her to complete her Post Graduation.

Kirshna Kohli started her career in activism back in 2005 and was selected for the third Mehergarh Human Rights Youth Leadership Training Camp held in 2007 at Islamabad.

Kirshna Kohli joined PPP along with her brother, Veerji Kohli, who was later elected as Chairman of Union Council Berano.

Kirshna Kohli also actively worked to understand bonded labor, sexual harassment at workplaces and women's rights.She also actively contributed to the Youth Civil Action Programme in Pakistan.

As per source, Kirshna Kohli was encouraged by Pakistan's Provincial Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, MNA Dr. Nafisa Shah, MPA Dr. Mehesh Kumar Malani and many other PPP leaders to stand up for the Senate position.
