India's state Jharkhand Chief Minister, Raghubar Das on 13th September 2018, has informed to introduced electric vehicles for official use in the state.
Jharkhand Department of Energy has availed 20 electric vehicles as cars for its use.
The electric cars are a part of a consignment of 50 such vehicles that the Energy Efficiency Services Limited will supply to Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam (JBVNL) for its official use. As the first lot of 20 electric cars has been delivered, the rest 30 will arrive within the coming two weeks.
The electric cars were procured by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), which is a joint venture of the PSUs under the Ministry of Power.
Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das proclaimed that the use of electric vehicles (EVs) will not only help curb pollution and protect the environment but it will also help save foreign currency.
Now with this development, Jharkhand has become the fifth state of India and the first state in eastern India to procure the eco-friendly vehicles for government use.
Prior to Jharkhand, the governments of Delhi, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana have procured electric cars for official purpose.
