Hirotugu Akaike was a Japanese statistician working in information theory. In the early 1970s, Hirotugu Akaike formulates a criterion for model selection-the information criterion is now widely used.
Hirotugu Akaike was born on November 5, 1927, on 4th August 2009, Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture, in Japan.
In the early 1970s, Hirotugu Akaike’s Information Criterion (AIC) is a practical yet versatile criterion for the selection of statistical models, based on basic concept of information mathematics
this criterion established a new paradigm that bridged the world of data and the world of modeling, hence, contributing greatly to the information and statistical sciences.
More than two decades of research later, Hirotugu Akaike presented the answer as a simple equation known as the Akaike Information Criterion.
In 2006, Hirotugu Akaike was awarded the Kyoto Prize for his major contribution to statistical science and modeling in the development of the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC).
Presently, on 5th November 2017, Google displayed a Doodle for what would have been Hirotugu Akaike’s 90th birthday.
