Jammu and Kashmir Government has appointed Dilbagh Singh as the Director General of Police (DGP) of the J&K state on 6th September 2018.
According to the J&K Government's order, Director General (Prisons), Dilbagh Singh has been given additional charge of Director General of Police, till a regular arrangement is made. He will have a regular appointment only after his name is cleared by the UPSC.
Dilbagh Singh replaces Shesh Paul Vaid, who was displaced from the post and was appointed as the Transport Commissioner in the State’s General Administrative Department (GAD). Shesh Paul Vaid is a 1986-batch IPS officer, was appointed as the Director General of Police in December 2016 and is due to retire in October 2019.
Dilbagh Singh is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1987 batch.
Dilbagh Singh was appointed as the Director General (Prisons) in March 2018 after the escape of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Naved Jhatt while he was on a routine health check-up at a city hospital in February.
Dilbagh Singh during his tenure as Director General of Prisons, Singh streamlined many things including the removal of dangerous terrorists from Kashmir jails.
Dilbagh Singh had earlier served as Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Jammu.
