Government planning for four new irrigation projects in J and K

 

 

Government of India is planning to forecast four projects in Indus river Basin to increase irrigation area in Jammu and Kashmir

 Three projects are already working out and are expected to be completed by this fiscal year, the three projects include- Prakachik Khows Canal in Kargil, Tral Irrigation Project in Pulwana and Restoration and Modernisation of main Ravi Canal in Jammu’s Sambha and Kathua.

The fourth project Rajpora Lift irrigation is planned to be completed by December 2019.

Funds to be raised by NABARD

The first three projects are is expected to irrigate around 1.45 lakh acres of land and the fourth Rajpora Lift irrigation will irrigate 59,305 acres of land.

The funds will be raised by the National bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

These irrigation schemes are the part of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchaye Yojana (PMKSY) and Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP).
