South Korea's Kim Jong-Yang elected as new President of Interpol: Details, Highlights

South Korea's Kim Jong Yang was elected Interpol President for a two-year term by member countries at 87th General Assembly of Interpol, held for the first time in Dubai.

Kim Jong Yang secured at least two-thirds of votes cast at the general assembly and defeated Russia’s Alexander Prokopchuk.

Kim Jong Yang will serve until 2020, completing the four-year mandate of his predecessor, Meng Hongwei, who was detained in China over corruption charges. 

Kim Jong Yang (57 years old) is a South Korean police officer. Prior to this appointment, he was Chief of Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency, the law enforcement agency for South Korea's most populous province.
