The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on 8th June 2018 commissioned an interceptor boat- ICGS C-439 at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) C-439 was commissioned by Additional Director General K Natarajan, Coast Guard Commander of Western Seaboard.
The ICGS C-439 vessel has been designed by the L&T Marine & Ship Design Division, an in-house facility of Larsen & Toubro Limited.
The ICGS C-439 vessel is 27.4 m long with a displacement of 136 tonnes. It can achieve a maximum speed of 45 knots.
The ICGS C-439 vessel has full aluminum-alloy hull for reduced weight and is powered by twin water-jet propulsion systems to enable quick response.
The ICGS C-439 vessel is equipped with modern navigation facilities and communication equipment and medium-range armament.
The ICGS C-439 vessel comprises of one officer and eleven personnel, all trained to perform coastal surveillance, search and rescue, anti-smuggling and anti-poaching operations in close coast low-intensity maritime operations.
The ICGS C-439 vessel will operate under the operational and administrative control of the Commander, Coast Guard District Headquarters No 2 (Maharashtra), Mumbai.
