Every year, International Mountain Day is observed to raise awareness for mountain communities all around the world. The United Nations General Assembly Resolution 57/245 established December 11th as International Mountain Day in December 2002.
Sustainable mountain tourism will be the theme of this year's International Mountain Day (IMD), which will take place on December 11th.
Sustainable mountain tourism can help to create new and alternative livelihood opportunities while also encouraging poverty reduction, social inclusion, and landscape and biodiversity conservation. It's a way of preserving natural, cultural, and spiritual history, promoting local crafts and high-value items, and commemorating many traditional customs like local festivals.
The United Nations General Assembly established this day in December 2003 to assist raise awareness about all of the things we rely on mountains for.
International Mountain Day highlights all of the glories stated above, as well as how important they are for the health and well-being of the flora and wildlife that call them home.
