World Animals Day, 4 October: Date, History, Theme, and Celebration

On the 4th of October in 2021, World Animal Day will be celebrated. But it's not just about a one-day celebration of animal care and protection, it's about a lifetime commitment to be mindful of them and to put an end to cruelty.

Theme Of the Day

“Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet” is the theme for World Animal Day 2021.

History of the day

Heinrich Zimmermann, a German writer, and publisher of the journal Mensch und Hund/Man and Dog, proposed honoring animal day as a special occasion for animals for the first time in 1925.

For the first time, it was commemorated on March 24th in Berlin.

For the first time, authority groups commemorated this day on October 4th, 1929. This day was only recognized by a few countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Czechoslovakia.

World Animal Day was established in 1931 during a conference of the World Animal Protection Organization in Florence, Italy. Heinrich's passion to giving animals the care and protection they deserve resulted in this.

The Finnish Association of Animal Protection Associations (SEY) commemorated the anniversary in 2002 by holding activities and giving materials to schoolchildren.

The Nature watch Foundation raised its voice in 2003 by creating a website and starting a fundraising campaign to offer the best possible care and protection for all wild and domestic animals. It was only available in the United Kingdom at the time.

This organization founded the ambassador's program in 2007 and began receiving assistance from global ambassadors to continue the animal rights campaign. It has now expanded to over 76 nations around the world.

On the 4th of October 2019, #worldanimalday trended in 56 countries throughout the world.

Several countries from all continents participated in 2020 by organizing events such as taking shelter dogs for a walk, raising awareness of endangered species, organizing Facebook campaigns, setting up different vaccination camps, donating to various animal welfare organizations, cage-free campaigns, holding various kid-friendly contests, and much more.
