The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Laboratory (IBSD) Imphal, has established a floating laboratory in India's largest northeast freshwater, Loktak Lake situated in Imphal, Manipur
The Floating laboratory in Loktak Lake was launched with an aim to continuously monitor its water quality and ultimately to improve it.
The Floating laboratory in Loktak Lake was inaugurated by Manipur's Forest and Environment Minister, Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh on 24th February 2018 in Imphal, Manipur.
The Floating laboratory launched is initiated with a joint venture between Loktak Development Authority (LDA) and ISBD.
The joint venture between ISBD & LDA will be beneficial in conservation and sustainable development of the lake in order to improve the inhabitant’s life of the lake.
The Floating laboratory launched will also strengthen the finding of the flora and fauna with other related research work. It will be funded and supported by the Manipur Government.
The Floating laboratory will also carry out research work to convert the water plants into organic fertilizers.
The Floating laboratory initiative is in a wake of to save Loktak Lake’s ecosystem as the overall water quality has been degraded and the size of the lake is shrinking steadily year per year.
