Birendra Prasad Baishya who is Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) President, has been elected as the Chairman of two sub-committees of the International Weightlifting Federation.
Birendra Prasad was elected as chairman of IWF’s ethics commission along with Anti-Disciplinary Commission at the world body’s Executive Committee meeting.
The World Body’s Executive Committee meeting was held in Bucharest (Romania).
* The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) is the international governing body for the sport of Olympic weightlifting.
* It was founded in 1905 and has its headquarters in Budapest, Hungary.
* Originally called the Fédération Haltéphile International (FHI).
* The Fédération Haltéphile International (FHI)’s name was changed as Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) between the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics.
* IWF’s current President is Tamas Ajan and It has 187 member nations.
