This train has been developed from Swadeshi Technology for Rs. 100 crores.
It is a hi-tech, energy-efficient, self-propelled or no-engine train. After the green flag was shown by Lohani, these trains of white and blue made some yard journey in Integral Coach Factory (ICF).
Officials say that this kind of India's first train 'Train 18' will prove to be game-changer in Indian Railways. The cost of developing this train, it has been fixed at the half cost of indigenous technology.
ICF General Manager S. Money had earlier said, "There are 16 cans in this train and the capacity to carry its passengers is as much as the 16 coaches are in the other train but there is no engine in it. It is 15-20% energy efficient and leaves the low carbon footprint. '
This train was developed within just 18 months while the industry norm was of 3-4 years. In this case, all the coaches have been given emergency talk-back units (through which passengers can talk to the train crew in the emergency), along with CCTV, so that they can be safe. The ICF is going to launch such six train sets soon.
The train -18 without any engine will be different from ordinary trains running on Indian Railways. Like sub-urban trains, there will be motor coaches on both ends of this train, that is, they can run in both directions. The maximum speed of this train is about 170 km per hour. This train will be fully air-conditioned, all the coaches will be connected to each other. In this stainless steel body train, there will be only one big window in both directions in the Wi-Fi, LED light, Passenger information system and the entire coach.
