Indian Navy’s indigenously built warship INS Ganga (F22) was got decommissioned on 22nd March 2018 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
INS Ganga (F22) a guided missile frigate of the Indian Navy, served over 30 years of dedicated services.
INS Ganga (F22) decommissioning ceremony was attended by several navy officers and men, many now retired, who had served and worked on board ship.
The ‘Special Guest of Honour’ for the INS Ganga decommissioning ceremony was Vice Admiral (Retd) K.K Kohli, the first Commanding Officer of INS Ganga.
The Chief Guest for the INS Ganga decommissioning ceremony was Vice Admiral A K Bhal, himself a former crew member of the INS Ganga warship from 1989 to 1991.
As per the official statement, INS Ganga (F22) warship had represented a big step forward in India’s indigenous warship building capability.
INS Ganga (F22) was indigenously developed & designed by Mumbai’s based Mazagon Dock Limited. It was the first warship of Indian Navy which was commissioned on 30th December 1985 and was retired from its active service on 28th May 2017.
INS Ganga (F22) warship along with Shakti and INS Godavari were deployed to Somalian capital Mogadishu in December 1994 to support the withdrawal of Indian Army& 66 Brigade, including the 2nd Battalion, Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry.
