Indian Navy has assigned the first water jet propelled vessel WJFAC
Indian Navy has assigned a car Nicobar Class water jet fast attack craft named INS Tihaytu in Vishakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh.
It is the sixth WJFAC assigned to the eastern Fleet of Indian Navy which weighs about 315 tonne and can achieve the highest speed up to 35 knots per hour.
This improved version of the earlier vessels was built by Kolkata based shipyard Green Shipbuilders and Engineers.
Its special features are it is powered by marine engine generating 2720 KW of power and has been loaded with 30 mm CRN gun.
This vessel is named after Car Nicobar island part of Andaman and Nicobar and is cost effective for patrol, anti-piracy and rescue operations in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
