Rabindra Puraskar is also called the Rabindra Smriti Puraskar. This is the highest literary award conferred by Bengal government.
Rabindra Puraskar was established in 1950, awarded by Paschimbanga Bangla (Kolkata) Akademy, Bengal State Government.
The Rabindra Puraskar award is given by the state of Bengal for distinguished work in Bangla and also other languages.

The first recipient of the Rabindra Puraskar award was Bibhutibhushan Bandhopadhyay for his novel Jaagari and Niharanjan Ray for his History Bangalir Itihaas: Adi Parva in 1950.
Satinath Bhaduri for his novel Ichhamatiin and Jogesh Chandra Ray Vidyanidhi for Indian Ancient Life (History) in the year 1951.
Some notable person who was conferred this prestigious award is Sukumar Sen for his outstanding work in History Bharatiya Shahityer Itihas in 1965, Buddhadeb Basu for his poetry Swagato Biday in 1974.
Achintyakumar Sengupta for his poetry Uttarayan, Sri Anirvan for Veda Mimamsa and Gopal Chandra Bhattacharya for his work in Banglar Kitpatanga (Entomology) 1975.
Palash Baran Pal for Bigyan: Byakti, Jukti, somoy O Somaj (Science) in 2004 and Himani Bannerjee for his outstanding work in literature, Biman Nath for Mohabishwer Prothom Aalo (Science) in 2005.
Amartya Sen 2011, Ranajit Das for overall contribution to Bengali poetry in 2011 and Dr. Sankar Kumar Nath for his outstanding work in Science Kolkata Medical College-r Gorar Katha O Pandit Madhusudan Gupta in 2014 and Gautam Basu for Bengali Poetry in 2015.
