In this war, 114 out of 124 soldiers of the 13 Kumaun battalions were killed. These soldiers had killed 1300 Chinese soldiers and forced around 3,000 Chinese troops to withdraw and flee.
Chinese soldiers were then armed with large amounts of cannons and shells, whereas 13 Kumaun's troops of the Indian army had limited of them, even they did not have any backup help from their Indian Army reserves.
Awards/Honors
The Government of India gave the company commander Maj Shaitan Singh, posthumously honored by India's highest gallantry award, Paramveer Chakra, while the other eight battalions of this battalion were given gallantry award to Veer Chakra, One was honored with the Mentioned In Dispatches. 13 Kumaon's Commanding Officer (CO) was decorated with AVSM.
In Indian military history, no other battalion got so many medals of bravery together.
Every year, on 18th November Rezang La Shaurya Divas, is being celebrated in Rewari.
Rejang La Shaurya Samiti commemorates that 30 soldiers who were martyred in this war belong to different villages of Rewari.
The Government of India later named the 13 Kumaun's company Rezangla Company.
