India’s Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully test fired its Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) ‘NAG ‘on 28th December 2018 in Pokhran.
ATGM ‘NAG’ missile test was conducted as part of a user validation trial, by DRDO at Pokhran in Jaisalmer districts of Rajasthan.
As per DRDO officials, ATGM ‘NAG’ missile, test fired was made against two tank targets in desert conditions and has ambitiously achieved all the expected parameters.
ATGM ‘NAG’ missile is indigenously developed by the DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP) and manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited. It is expected to be inducted into the Indian Armed forces till the end of 2018.
ATGM ‘NAG’ is Tandem Solid Propulsion (Nitramine based smokeless extruded double base sustainer propellant) missile. It is equipped with four foldable wings and has a length of 1.85m, a diameter of 0.20m, a wingspan of 0.4m and weight of 43kg.
ATGM ‘NAG’ is a fire-and-forget missile it is capable of carrying nuclear warheads of 8 kg upholding with a strike range of 500 m to 4km at a speed of 230 m/sec.
ATGM ‘NAG’ missile has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 3 billion. It was last tested on 8th September 2017, twice by DRDO in the ranges of Rajasthan.
