IAF Fighter Pilot Bhawana Kanth – Profile, Education, Achievements

Bhawana Kanth is one of the first woman fighter pilots of India. Bhawana (aged 26 years) along with two other women pilots namely Avani Chaturvedi and Mohana Singh achieved the feat of becoming first combat pilots in Indian Air Force (IAF) who got commissioned in June 2016.

Bhawana Kanth was born on 1st December 1992, to a Hindu middle-class family in Barauni, Bihar. Her fatherTej Narayan Kanth is an electrical engineer in Indian Oil Corporation of India and her mother Radha Kanth is a house wife.

Bhawana Kanth completed her schooling from DAV Public School situated at Barauni in Bihar. In 2014, she took B.Tech degree in Biomedical Engineering (BME) from BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru. After which she got recruited by Tata Consultancy Service claiming her first job and with this, she also qualified the IAF exam.

Bhawana Kanth is an active sports person from her school days & loves to play Kho- Kho, Swimming & do Painting. She also has clean hands on modeling assignments and appeared in print advertisements.

Bhawana Kanth took 6 months of training on Kiran trainer jets at Hakimpet Air Force Station, Telangana and followed it with a one-year-long stint on Hawk advanced trainer jets at Bidar Air Force Station, Karnataka and one year of training from Dundigal Air Force Academy at Hyderabad, Telangana.

Bhawana Kanth, in June 2016 got commissioned as a fighter pilot in the IAF, passed from the first batch of three women pilots.

Bhawana Kanth, in 2016, once said that flying "like a free bird" had been a childhood dream, which inspired her to join the Indian Air Force.

Bhawana Kanth became the 2nd Indian woman to fly a Fighter Jet (MiG-21Bison) solo on16th March 2018.
