Union Cabinet headed by PM Narendra Modi has given its approval for the agreement between India and Estonia for transfer of sentenced persons.
The major aim for the signing of this agreement is to facilitate prisoners of both the countries near to their families.
The Indian prisoners in Estonia and prisoners of Estonia in India will be moved near to their families to facilitate social recuperation.
Prisoners Act, 2003 was passed for transfer of the prisoners to their respective countries but for this an agreement needs to be signed by the union and needs to be modified by Official Gazette.
The government of India has also signed this agreement with UK, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Brazil, France, Bangladesh, Iran and many more countries.
65 prisoners have been exchanged out of which 55 of them were Indians.
