China Agrees to Re-open ‘Nathu La’ Pass in Sikkim advantage for Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage site journey

Union Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh in a written response to Lok Sabha, on 7th February 2018, informed that China has now agreed to reopen the ‘Nathu La’ Pass in Sikkim.

The Nathu La pass route was closed by China last year in 2017, stating "unfavorable conditions", at a time when India and China were engaged in a military standoff at Doklam in Bhutan.

The Nathu La pass route restarting will allow Indian pilgrims to Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra, which will be starting from June 2018, for a period of 4 months.

The Nathu La route is a mountain pass in the Himalayas Region in East Sikkim district. It connects the Indian state of Sikkim with China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

The Nathu La pass is situated at 4,310 m (14,140 ft) above sea level traversed by Old Silk Route.It is located at a distance of 55Km from Gangtok.
