Shri Yogeshwar Sangwan has been appointed as India's next ambassador to Paraguay. The present Joint Secretary in the Ministry, Shri Yogeshwar Sangwan (IFS: 1994), has been nominated the next Indian Ambassador to Paraguay.

History of Paraguay, Detail

India–Paraguay relations are the bilateral connections between the Republic of India and the Republic of Paraguay. India and Paraguay established diplomatic relations on September 13, 1961. Paraguay established an embassy in India in March 2006.

The embassy is concurrently accredited to Sri Lanka. In addition, Paraguay has Honorary Consulates in Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai. India has an embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and an Honorary Consulate in Asunción, Paraguay.

In May 2012, Paraguay's first President, Fernando Lugo, paid a visit to India. He was accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, and Commerce, as well as other high-ranking government officials.

India's nomination for a seat on the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2015–17 term received support from Paraguay.

Economy Relation Between India and Paraguay:

The value of bilateral commerce between India and Paraguay in 2015 was US$212 million, up 27% over the previous year.

India sold $145 million worth of goods to Paraguay and purchased $67 million worth of goods.

The main exports from India to Paraguay are organic chemicals, automobiles, auto parts, cosmetics, machinery, medicines, plastics, sound and video gadgets, aluminum, and rubber products.

Paraguay's main exports to India are soya oil (which accounts for 94% of imports), sunflower oil, leather, and timber.

Paraguayans can apply for scholarships through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme. A high number of Paraguayan diplomats have received training from India's Foreign Service Institute.
