India was placed at 47th position among 86 countries in the ‘Inclusive Internet Index’ report for the year 2018, in terms of inclusive Internet and connectivity for all.
As per the report by Facebook, released on 26th February 2018, India has fallen back by 11 positions as compared to 36th rank in the Inclusive Internet Index report of 2017. It was due to low internet usage and poor quality of accessibility.
The Inclusive Internet Index report was first commissioned by Facebook in 2017 and is conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
The Inclusive Internet Index report assesses and compares countries according to their enabling environment for adoption and productive use of the Internet.
The Inclusive Internet Index aims to help policymakers and influencers gain a clearer understanding of the factors that contribute to wide and sustainable inclusion.
The Inclusive Internet Index report initiates exhaustive benchmark of national-level Internet inclusion across four categories: Availability, Affordability, Relevance and Readiness.
The Inclusive Internet Index report-2018 has covered 91% of the world population and expanded data set of 86 countries, up from 75 countries in 2017.
In Inclusive Internet Index report-2018, India was ranked 62nd in Availability, 39th in Affordability, 37th in Relevance and 23rd in Readiness categories whereas Singapore, Canada, Poland and Malaysia have topped in all these respective categories.
