IGKV Chhattisgarh finds rice variety rich in protein and zinc
Chhattisgarh, a rice bowl of the country, IGKV scientists have found new variety of rice rich in protein and zinc
A new rice variety enriched with protein has been found by Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Chhattisgarh by the Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology department.
This protein enriched rice variety has 10% protein which is 35 more than the normal variety and also has high content of zinc.
The researchers have worked upon seven years to find out the quality which is rich in protein and zinc.
IGKV also found another variety of rice rich in zinc in 2015
This protein enriched rice will remove the protein deficiencies among people especially children and will help to overcome.
The scientists from IGKV had also found out the first zinc bio fortified rice variety of zinc in May 2015.
A survey was also conducted in 2015 which showed that around 5 lakh children are suffering from underweight and un-natural growth in Chhattisgarh especially at tribal areas.
