SERB was established through an Act of Parliament , SERB Act in 2008 by Government of India and it is a statutory body.
SERB is launched under the Ministry of Science & Technologyy for women to mitigate the gender disparity in Science & Technology.
The scheme consists of 2 components : Research Grants and Fellowship.
It will encourage women to take career in the science & tech. field and to create a more women friendly atmosphere in research & academic institution.
This project intends to create a funding framework to empower women researcher and the two components are :-
Women researchers between the age of 35-55 yrs and 25 fellowship ever year.
Fellowship of worth Rs.15,000 per month,an additional overhead of Rs90,000 per annum and research grant of Rs10 Lakh perannum and for upto 3 yrs.
It is composed of 2 levels
Level-1 :-This is applicable for candidates from NITS,IITS, National Labs of Government Institutes etc.Funding is upto 60 lakh for 3 yrs.
Level-2 :-This is applicable for candidates from private universities/colleges and funding is upto 30 lakh.
Eligibility to apply for Research Grants & Fellowships
The applicant must be an Indian Citizen.
The applicant must hold a academic position.
Both fellowships cannot be held by sigle scientist at a same time.
UGC faculties are also eligible to apply.
