The Government of India proposes to build India’s first general ethanol bio-refinery to be set up by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation in Bathinda, Punjab.
The foundation stone laying ceremony will be held on 25th December 2016 in Tarkhanwala, Bhatinda.
The bio-oil refinery will produce 100 kilolitres of ethanol per day and 3.20 crores per year which is sufficient to meet 26% of the ethanol requirement of Punjab.
The proposed bio-refinery will also generate employment for more than 1000 people in the biomass supply chain which will generate an additional income of Rs.20 crore per annum for farmers through practise of their agriculture residues like sugarcane.
The refinery will also help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the paddy straw which is being burnt after harvesting.
The refinery will produce 1 lakh kg of Bio-CNG per annum which can cater transport and clean cooking requirements.
